Do you struggle with what kind of birthday party to throw for your tween? I tossed out ideas for our tween about going to the mall, or catching a movie with friends, but her response was, “Let’s have a Periodic Table birthday party!” So, yes, you read that right… we threw an epic tween Periodic Table Party. 🙌 🤓
Planning this party reminded me of when I would elaborately execute parties when the kids were little (usually completely wearing myself out staying up the night before with a hot glue gun making cute party favors and paper mache piñatas) but now I’m more like this:
I think the part of me that needed to craft has mellowed with age…😉 so, thank you Amazon Prime for making this party happen.
The Party Table: Here is what the guests saw when they arrived. I bought the balloon garland at Wal-Mart for $10, the table cloth here and the lab coats here. We even threw a few Periodic Table puns out on the table for a few laughs.
Elemental Apps: My daughter helped me plan the appetizers and even researched what elements were found in each one. Did you know that chocolate covered nuts were full of Magnesium and broccoli is full of Calcium?!
Icebreaker: When the guests arrived, they worked on building this Periodic Table Puzzle. It was a hit! They ended up dividing and conquering the puzzle by working on them in groups of metals, nonmetals, and noble gases. And really, the puzzle was a great gift afterwards.
Party Favors: I consider it a win when I can double a party activity with the party favor! So the guests decorated their lab coats with a few fabric markers for a photo op!
Photo Booth: She didn’t even mind taking a picture with her dear ol’ Mom – and yes, I may have used a little bit of hot glue for this homemade picture frame for the photo booth! What can I say – you can take the girl outta Pinterest, but you can’t take Pinterest — well you know what I mean.😅
Periodic Table Escape Room: Escape rooms seem to be the party of choice these days with tweens, so I found a Periodic Table Escape Room here that involved guests solving puzzles and riddles about elements and the Periodic Table. I loved how this escape room challenge was super easy to print off, throw in a folder, and hand it to the girls. The best part was as they were trying to “escape” they were learning more about the Periodic Table!
Karaoke: Of course we jammed out to ASAP’s Periodic Table song and even did an encore with a rock geology song they learned in their 6th grade science class.
Science Experiment: We topped off the evening, with a bit of dry ice from HEB, and the birthday girl and her guests had the MOST fun dropping dry ice in soapy water and watching it bubble and boil. We discussed how dry ice is solid carbon dioxide that goes directly from a solid to a gas but really at this point it was all soap and bubbly fun…
Even her siblings had to check out the dry ice before the party!
Check out this giant soap bubble!
I have to admit, the Periodic Table Party pleasantly surprised us all with how fun it turned out and it was the perfect way to celebrate our girl turning 12!
