One of our favorite local places to visit is the Beaumont Children’s Museum. It started four years ago as a grassroots community effort to bring “fun and learning to children of Southeast Texas” which makes me love it even more. Check out this charming museum and the fierce STEM programs it provides to the community of Beaumont.
Who wouldn’t smile when the first exhibit you encounter is “Cookie the Cow”? I’ve never seen three kids more excited to milk a cow than Cookie.
I just love this little mirage maker. Can you spot the Lego man reflection? It just makes me want to try to make one myself!
The light exhibits are some of my favorites and although we have bucket loads of magnatiles at home, they are so much cooler on a light table. Look how my little one is so fascinated! And my most favorite exhibit by far is the Augmented Reality Sandbox. The first time I saw it last summer I thought it was just pretty sandbox until my 9 year old correctly pointed out that it had topographical lines depending on the height of the sand. (So glad I have her as my tour guide! 😉 )
Who doesn’t love a little Bernoulli principle?
I think we can all play in the sand area for hours dusting off and discovering dinosaur bones and eggs.
Here we are exploring sound with an organ. (Have you noticed that we’ve taken several trips to the museum based on the number of outfit changes?)
They were so proud of their structure that at one point it was taller than me!
We enjoy playing dentist, reading one of our favorite teeth books “Doug the Sugarbug” and posing for cheesy pictures. There are several pretend play areas such as a dentist office, doctors office, eye doctors office, grocery store, and bank.
And last but not least, the museum hosts so many amazing STEM programs such as Women in STEM, Pi Day, Touch a Truck, Maker Space Saturdays, and so much more! On any given day, you may catch someone carrying around a snake! Check out their event’s calendar here.
You should put the Beaumont Children’s Museum on your summer bucket list. She is small, but she is fierce by developing a countless number of inventors, scientists, and dreamers in southeast Texas.
