It’s a New year with new angle and we are watching light bend its way into 2026!
All you need for this science experiment is a Ziploc bag, a white piece of paper and a sharpie. Draw on your white paper then seal it up in the Ziploc bag and dunk into a glass of water. The image appears to disappear when submerged in the water and reappear when lifted out of the water!
What’s the science? It’s refraction! Light changes speed when it moves through different materials like air and water. You only see the writing when light from the writing reaches your eyes. During this refraction experiment, light from the object bends as it passes through water and glass. Your brain says: no light , no object – so it looks like it vanished but the writing is still there its light just changed direction.
