I was reminded the other day how amazingly different all three of my kiddos are when we were playing with chalk. My 2 year old daughter was happily scribbling away when I looked over and saw my 4 year old son chopping up the chalk with a shovel… #girllifeboylife
So I thought I would reinvent one of our favorite experiments – candy catapults – to send his Lego policemen soaring throw the air. You can find a video of me explaining how to make the catapults here. All you need are craft sticks, rubber bands, and a few willing Lego people.
We attempted to land the Lego man in a cup and then Andrew wanted to “up the ante” by landing him in a cup of water. After several attempts he did it!
What’s the science: A catapult is a simple machine called a lever. Other examples of levers are scissors, see-saws, and fingernail clippers. It is also a great example of Newton’s Third Law of motion that states; for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction.
