Would you believe me if I told you that you can step through a single sheet of paper? What if I told you it was through the Cornucopia of Science?! Here is an easy Thanksgiving science activity to try in your home or classroom.
What you need: cornucopia printable found here, crayons, scissors.
How you do it?
- Print cornucopia on 8.5″ X 11″ printer paper
- Fold in half
- Color the cornucopia
- Cut along the dotted lines and box as shown below (careful to not cut too close to the corners)
- Open the paper and step on through!
What’s the science?
When cut a certain way, you can stretch a piece of paper over your head. Try an experiment to determine how far you can stretch paper if you cut it 11 times or 19 times. What if you cut it only 10 times? Does an even or odd number of cuts make a difference?
What is a cornucopia? Traditionally it is a horn shape symbol of Thanksgiving and harvest which holds an assortment of fruits and veggies. It’s also called the ‘horn of plenty’.
