This year we are celebrating Memorial Day by swimming, enjoying family, and eating barbecue. I honestly can’t think of anything better to drink while eating barbecue ribs than Coke floats.
And best of all, you can use this tasty treat to have a little science lesson (which is how most of our science conversations start).
What you need: a cup, a spoon, a mini coke, and some Bluebell vanilla ice cream (It’s important that it’s Bluebell 😉)

What’s the science:
While we enjoyed our treat, we talked about the properties of a solid (the ice cream), a liquid (the Coke), and a gas (the carbon dioxide bubbles trapped in the Coke).
We also talked about how this Coke float experiment is similar to a Mentos geyser because when the Coke hits the ice cream the carbon dioxide is release from solution causing a sugary ice-creamy foam to ensue! And bonus: This is much easier to clean up than a geyser!

We hope you have a simply amazing weekend with your family doing science and remembering the amazing men and women who sacrificed it all for our great nation.
