We just had the best April Fools’ Day thanks to science! This idea came from the legendary Steve Spangler and when I talked to my kids about it, they thought it would be pretty neat to prank their teachers in carline!
All you have to do is get people to believe that you accidentally left a cup on top of your car but meanwhile the empty cup is held in place with a strong neodymium magnet!
What you need: a solo cup (or for style points – an empty Starbucks cup) and a neodymium magnet (that you can find in these puddy kits)
What you do:
- Place a magnet at the bottom of the cup and place it on top of your car
- Watch the hilarity ensue when you drive around!
What’s the science: Several kids in carline asked us how it stayed up there with good guesses like it was glue or something really heavy. But they never believed it would stay on top of the car at 40mph (which it did!) 🤣 We were surprised how many people on the road rolled down the window and told us that we left a cup on top of our car – to which we responded “April Fools!”
We hope you have the best time on April Fools’ Day with a little help from science!
